Starting the program....
To set up LabAnalyst on your computer, you need two files on your disk: the program and the small 'LAprefs' file, which stores user preferences for screen colors, various operational defaults and display options, etc.  Both the program and the preferences file must be in the same folder.  Actually, LAprefs is optional; without it the program will use built-in defaults.  At any time you can use the 'save settings' option in the File menu (see below) to save your own set of custom preferences in 'LAprefs'.

In order to do anything useful with LabAnalyst, you need to load a data file.  Specially-formatted Warthog-type files (the ones with the warthog icons; see the Warthog File Formats page) work best.  Warthog-format files contain a lot of information about data acquisition conditions, starting dates and times, markers, etc.  You can also load spreadsheet data or Sable-format files.

   NEW VERSION with 16 CHANNELS!

These updated instructions refer to the January 2001 or later versions, which support up to 16 channels on monitors with resolutions of 800 X 600 or higher (on 640 X480 screens, a maximum of 14 channels is possible).

Throughout this manual, the symbol indicates use of the command key for keyboard control.  For example, +O means "command+O".  Also, a small button symbol such as this one:     indicates that you can select this menu item from one of the buttons in the 'tool bar' at the bottom of the plot area, as well as from the menu bar.
