Rejection criteria

This window lets you select rejection options for the key microclimate data used to compute thermoregulatory costs.   Each case in the file containing microclimate data can be discarded for cost calculations if certain data are missing.   The default settings take the most conservative approach, with rejection invoked if any data are missing.

  • Note that cases are always rejected if both shade and sun temperatures are missing.

  • If any of the rejection options are not selected, the program will attempt to use alternate temperatures (sun temperature if shade temperature isn't available; shade temperature if sun temperature is not available).   If wind speed is missing, it will be set 0.01 m/s (roughly the speed of free convection in 'still' air).

  • Caution:   Not rejecting all cases with any missing data can produce inaccurate estimates of time in torpor or other factors.
