LabAnalyst X

Starting the program...

To set up LabAnalyst X, you need two files on your disk: the program and the small 'LAprefs' file, which stores user preferences for screen colors, operational defaults and display options, etc.  The program and the preferences file must be in the same folder.  LAprefs is optional; without it the program will use built-in defaults.  At any time you can use the 'save settings' option in the FILE Menu (see below) to save your own set of custom preferences in 'LAprefs'.

The initial sign-on screen lets you access most of the calculators in the SPECIAL Menu, but in order to do anything more that that, you need to load a data file.  Specially-formatted Warthog-type files (the ones with the warthog icons; see the Warthog File Formats page) work best.  Warthog-format files contain a lot of information about data acquisition conditions, starting dates and times, markers, etc.  You can also load spreadsheet data or Sable-format files.

IN OS 9, after selecting a data file, you will be asked to set the maximum file size (the largest number of cases). The default is 250,000; choices range from 75,000 to one million cases (always with up to 24 channels). The main issue with large maximum sizes is the necessary memory, as can be seen in the selection window.

If you select a small or intermediate maximum file size and want to change it, you'll have to quit and restart (you can't reset the maximum after launch).

Note that throughout this website, there may be slight differences in the appearance of windows (especially backgrounds) on the site versus on your computer, depending on the version of OS X in use.
